Military

Most recently I have had the rich experience of working for the Department of Defense at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC). It has afforded me the opportunity to understand and witness the unique nuances of working with Active-Duty (AD), AD’s adult dependents, and retirees. The military population is a much more “we” mentality, as the central thrust of all decisions are centered on the mission, unlike my experience working in the civilian sector, where the focus is more individually based.

Below highlights several of my military experiences:

Ongoing advocacy on decreasing barriers to behavioral health services for Active-Duty Service Members and to de-stigmatize mental health issues

Core faculty for the Army’s only Psychiatry Residency Program (32 residents annually)

Teach didactics on psychotherapy and psychodynamic
Provide weekly supervision for long-term psychotherapy cases
Provide weekly in-training psychotherapy with psychiatry residents

Core faculty for the Army’s Psychology Intern and Residency Program (6 interns and 6 residents annually)
Provide weekly supervision
Interviewing applicants and selection process
Provide weekly in-training psychotherapy with psychology interns and residents

Opportunity to work via Telebehavioral Health with Active-Duty Service Members throughout the Pacific Rim (e.g., Korea, Japan, American Samoa, Alaska)

Invited and presented for the TAMC Grand Rounds, Psychiatry Grand Rounds, and Psychology Grand Rounds
