Leadership & Experience

My leadership style is inclusion, collaboration, investment in hearing all stakeholders — I genuinely am interested in others’ experiences and positions — and then take that information and transform it into tangible actions. I approach my leadership role in a respectful, thoughtful manner and honestly care about the organization I am working for. I will bring that commitment to my APA work. I aim to improve situations promptly. I welcome and seek feedback to advance my leadership skills. Due to being an international psychologist, a global lens is inherent in the way I work. Lastly, I like to enjoy my work environment, and humor is a part of my style.

Throughout my career, I have had excellent opportunities to be a leader with over 30 years of administrator-level working experience in a variety of work environments (e.g., leading a Behavioral Health Department for a national level HMO, chief of a prominent military multi-disciplinary outpatient Behavioral Health Services clinic in the Pacific Rim, managing a multicultural graduate level Psychology department of a leading accredited University, extensive volunteer leadership experiences in the state, national, and international organizations (i.e., APA, International Council of Psychology), coupled with training involvement with graduate and post-graduate psychology and psychiatry trainees).  Working knowledge includes developing strong liaison relationships with multiple stakeholders, building bridges, moving complicated agendas forward, developing programs, and program evaluation.  I also am well versed and knowledgeable about the less desirable, at least for me, aspects of leader experiences, namely budgets and institutional resistance to change.
