Meet Nancy

Nancy M. Sidun, PsyD, ABPP, ATR, has devoted her career to using psychological science and practice to address human rights and social justice issues. She has brought her egalitarian feminism lens to human trafficking, abuse, sexism, interracial adoption, and healthcare delivery inequities. Nancy’s dedication to combatting human trafficking has resulted in more than 70 publications and presentations. In addition, Nancy’s focus on healthcare delivery has led to the recognition of inequities between Oahu and neighboring Islands, culminating in Kaiser-Permanente’s Telebehavioral health services in Hawai’i.

After adopting her Asian-born daughter as a single white mother, Nancy extended her feminist, social justice perspective to International Psychology. She served as President of APA’s Division 52, International Psychology, Chair and Co-Chair of APA’s Committee on International Relations in Psychology; Chair of Division 52’s International Committee for Women, Treasurer and Director-At-Large for the International Council of Psychologists and served as an Ambassador to Kosovo in APA’s International Learning Partner Program. In 2021 she guest co-edited the International Perspectives in Psychology Special Issue: Women During COVID-19 and was awarded the 2021 Denmark/Reuder Award for Outstanding International Contributions to the Psychology of Women and Gender. In addition, New York State Psychological Association, Division on Women’s Issues, bestowed her with the 2022 Margaret Floy Washburn award.

Nancy is a strong advocate for psychology, both nationally and locally. She has held multiple leadership positions in academic institutions, the public sector, within APA, and her State Psychological Association. She welcomes the opportunity to serve as a Member-At-Large on APA’s Board.
